Benefits & Leave Specialist

The Benefits & Leave Specialist is a seasoned HR professional responsible for the strategic and operational administration of employee benefit and leave programs. This role ensures efficient delivery, compliance, and optimization of benefits and leave-related functions, serving as a key resource for internal and external stakeholders. The specialist also maintains regulatory adherence and enhances the employee experience.
- Serve as the primary liaison with benefit plan providers, brokers, and TPAs.
- Lead research, evaluation, and recommendation of benefits programs and vendor partnerships.
- Analyze and refine internal benefits administration processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee end-to-end benefits administration, including new hire enrollments, terminations, life event changes, COBRA administration, leave processing (FMLA, STD, LTD, ADA), and claims management.
- Lead the full-cycle open enrollment process, ensuring accurate and timely enrollment elections.
- Maintain benefits records in HRIS and payroll systems; audit for compliance and vendor reconciliation.
- Collaborate with Payroll regarding payroll, health insurance, PTO, and LOA matters.
- Maintain documentation, update policies, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Administer 401(k) and retirement savings plans, including compliance testing and filings.
- Coordinate audits and respond to regulatory and internal data requests.
- Assist Health, Environment and Safety team with workers compensation claims.
- Develop and deliver employee communication strategies regarding benefits and leave programs.
- Provide high-level support and guidance to employees and management.
- Collaborate with HR leadership to implement departmental goals, strategies, and initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration and leave management.
- Extensive knowledge of ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and state-specific leave laws.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating renewals, and overseeing open enrollment.
- Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems (Paycor, Employee Navigator, Springbuk) and advanced Excel skills.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
